Is Your Child Struggling With Math?
Does it feel like no matter how hard your child tries, they just can’t seem to grasp math concepts? Are they frustrated, overwhelmed, or even falling behind in school? Does math feel like an insurmountable challenge?
Every missed lesson, every confusing homework assignment, and every low test score only deepens the frustration. Your child may start dreading school, losing interest in learning, and even feeling like they’re “just not good at math.” Without the right support, the gap in their understanding continues to grow—and so does their anxiety.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Math Amigo’s personalized tutoring is designed to help your child understand even the most difficult concepts at their own pace. With one-on-one lessons from experienced tutors, we focus on building confidence, mastering key skills, and turning math into something fun and approachable. We work with your child’s unique learning style to ensure they truly get it—and start seeing real improvement.

We had the privilege of having Jana Murrey as our son’s teacher for 2 years. When I asked him what he loved about her teaching, he said that she is patient, funny, and descriptive in a way that makes things easier to understand. She did a great job helping him navigate some of the harder math that you begin to learn in 4th and 5th grade.

Mrs. Jana Murrey was my child’s second grade teacher. The curriculum was very challenging. Mrs. Murrey’s teaching skills are amazing and made learning easy, fun and exciting. She’s a passionate teacher we will never forget.

Jana Murrey was my daughter’s second grade teacher and we all loved her! Starting with Meet the Teacher night, we always found Mrs. Murrey to be organized, professional, clear in her communications with both students and parents, as well as a loving and caring teacher to the children. When my daughter had big emotions, Mrs. Murrey would listen to her and help her work through them rather than punishing her… She will always hold a special place among our favorite teachers!
FAQ's
Does Virtual Math Tutoring Work?
Absolutely! Our reviews are a testament to the success of an online tutoring model.
Remote tutoring has several advantages over in person tutoring: the ability to provide a tailored atmosphere for optimal learning, reduced anxiety by working in a familiar location, and highly focused one on one learning. White board and internet connected technologies allow information presentation in ways that aren’t as easy in a traditional schooling environment. Online math tutoring works!
What do classes cost?
Prices vary as each teacher sets their own prices. Generally classes are $25 – $30 per half hour class with discounts offered at the discretion of each teacher. You can view exact pricing on the booking page.
Who are our teachers?
Our teachers have real classroom experience and are degreed and certified for math education. They also love the content they are teaching and aim to share their love of learning in the classroom. Click on individual profiles to learn more about each of our teachers.
There are so many free resources on the internet. Why would I pay for a tutor?
Great question! A tutor will be able to find your child’s area of need quickly and efficiently. We can tailor lessons in the moment to make them more advanced or slow them down to explain the topic more explicitly. Using a live tutor acknowledges that learning is not “one size fits all”. A tutor will frequently check for understanding by having the student explain their thinking and can instantly intervene, if needed.
Think of a tutor as you would a coach or trainer, even though you can find all the videos and work out plans online to get fit, having a coach or trainer guide you through the process is immensely beneficial. In the same way a math tutor is your guide to helping you accomplish your math goals and keep you on track when things get difficult.
Why choose Math Amigo?
We have three goals when working with your child: 1) Fill in learning gaps. 2) Build confidence so your child can succeed in the math classroom and beyond. 3) Model and foster lifelong learning and curiosity.
With that in mind, your child is getting targeted, customized help based on their particular needs. Not only do we want to solve math problems, but we want to build a community that cherishes real human connection. Our sole purpose is to bring information, truth, and resources to those who need and want it.
How do you decide what to teach?
Before we begin working with your child, an initial parent phone call is scheduled. We want to understand the “whole picture” of your child- What are their strengths and weaknesses? What are their interests outside of class? What approach would best help them to succeed?
This conversation is the key to what we do for two reasons: it helps us make a long-term connection with the student and family and it gives us a laser-focused approach as to how to quickly and effectively guide them during class time.
We also draw on data to determine what to teach. We use assessments provided by the school, recommendations by the classroom teacher, sample student work, and report card notes to target the highest areas of need.
What does a typical class look like?
Our class sessions are typically 25 minutes. Each class begins with an icebreaker. This is our way of continually building rapport with our students and ease them into lessons. Then we do a review of previously taught material. Next we work on a new concept, drawing from our former lessons. Lastly, the student does some independent practice problems, while we offer support as needed.
We also offer 50-minute classes for students who benefit from longer processing times or who have lengthier and more in-depth homework assignments.
What technology is required for class?
Our classes are taught through Zoom and most basic computers today running Windows, Apple, or Linux are suitable for class. Headphones with a built in microphone are preferrable, however most of the time the speaker and microphone on the computer will work. A web cam is recommended as well (the one built into most laptops is fine).
As a bonus, if you have a writing pad, this enables students to more easily write on the screen and answer problems.
